The biogas plant generates a maximum of electricity to feed into the public grid and is limited by the amount of arising biomass input material. The gas engines run permanentely and the additionally installed microgas-turbine uses only the surplus-biogas.

Fuel storage: The biomass plant storage facility has a capacity of max. 300 m³. This corresponds to roughly 12 days of running at full load.

Plant description:

The LOICK biogas plant in Dorsten is a demonstration project. The federal state of Nordrhein-Westfalen in cooperation with the Fraunhofer UMSICHT institute provided financial and professional support to this project.

Fuel feeding system: Mechanical loading system

Feedstock: liquid manure, renewable primary energy products, waste water, bio-waste

Digester capacity: 1150 m³

Residence time: 35 days

Process temperature: mesophilic (38°C)

Annual gas production: 1400000 Nm³

Specific gas yield: 140 m³ gas/ m³ feedstock

Gas quality: 60% methane

Engine: pilot injection gas engine

Flue gas cleaning:

Dust removal via fabric filter system

HCL reduction by flue gas scrubber

NOx-reduction via selective catalytic reduction (SCR)

SO2/SO3 reduction also by flue gas scrubber

one-level process; wet-fermentation (dry substance content: 18-20%)

the biogas plant had only one reciprocating engine from sept.-oct., in november a new micro-gas-turbine was installed

Electricity sale info:

The German biomass-CHP plants, which feed the generated electricity into public grid, get a fixed amount of allowances per kWh (according capacity and year of commissioning) by legal restrictions – EEG -. This allowances decreases every year.
