Energy usage: Process heat and heating of residential building (800 MWh/a), feeding in district heating system (1,5 km pipeline, 1200 MWh/a)

Plant description: The Gedea biogas plant in Wolpertshausen is a commercial unit and facilitates a residential  area with heat. The operation of the plant saves the output of appr. 1800 t of CO2.

Fuel feeding system: Mechanical loading system

Digester capacity: 980 m³ (1 x steel grafting stream 120 m³, 2 x concrete digester a 430 m³)

Residence time: 70 days

Process temperature: mesophilic (44°C)

Annual gas production: 900000 Nm³

Specific gas yield: 180 m³ gas/ m³ feedstock

Gas quality: 55 % methane

Engine: pilot injection diesel engines

Flue gas cleaning:

Dust removal via fabric filter system

HCL reduction by flue gas scrubber

NOx-reduction via selective catalytic reduction (SCR)

SO2/SO3 reduction also by flue gas scrubber

one-level process; wet-fermentation (dry substrate content: 10 %)

The plant produces appr. 5000 t fertilizer per year, which is used in agriculture and forestry.

Staff: Appr. 3000 working hours per year

Electricity sale info: The German biomass-CHP plants, which feed the generated electricity into public grid, get a fixed amount of allowances per kWh (according capacity and year of commissioning) by legal restrictions – EEG -. This allowances decreases every year.
